Acts 2:42:47 NIV

42They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

You don’t have to know all the answers. You don’t have to agree on everything. Whether you’ve followed Jesus for years, you’re not sure what you believe, or you’re just curious… you’re welcome here.

BASECAMP is a place for families to talk honestly, listen closely, and grow together.

Around the Table

This week at ORIGINS we discovered that following Jesus was never meant to be a solo adventure. The very first followers of Jesus didn’t just attend church together…they shared meals, prayed for one another, encouraged one another, and walked through life together.

Ask each family member to answer:

“If life suddenly became really difficult…who would you call first?”  Why?

Read Together

Acts 2:42-47 (NIV)

After reading, ask:

  • What surprised you most about the early church?
  • What looks different from the way we live today?
  • What would you like our family to learn from them?

Dig Deeper

Rather than asking, “Who are your friends?”

Ask…

  • Which friends bring out the best in you?
  • Which friends make it easier to follow Jesus?
  • Who do YOU encourage?
  • If someone spent a week with our family…what would they learn about following Jesus?

Family Activity

Build something together.  It could be:

a LEGO set |  a puzzle  |  a recipe  |  a campfire  |  a backyard project

When you’re finished ask:

“Would that have been easier…or harder…alone?”  Talk about why God created people to need one another.

This Week’s Challenge

Every member of the family chooses ONE person to encourage this week.  Not because they asked. Not because they earned it.  Simply because that’s what followers of Jesus do.  At dinner next week…share what happened.

Family Prayer

Jesus,

Thank You for never asking us to walk through life alone. Thank You for giving us family…friends…and Your Church.  Help us become the kind of people who encourage others, carry one another’s burdens, and point people toward You.  Show us who needs encouragement this week…and give us the courage to take the first step.
